Bones is a Japanese animation studio founded in October 1998 by Sunrise staff members Masahiko Minami, Hiroshi Osaka and Toshihiro Kawamoto. One of the studio's first projects was a collaboration with its mother company, Sunrise, on Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door. In 2002, the studio suffered the loss of Osaka when he passed away after his long battle with cancer. Since Osaka's death, Bones has seen two new additions: Makoto Watanabe and Takahiro Komori. Komori is known as a character designer and animator, and he has worked on Angelic Layer, Scrapped Princess, and Darker than Black.
