Boredoms
- Formed in 1986 by Yamantaka EYE
- originally in Hanatarash
- EYE left Hanatarash and started Acid Makki & Combi and Zombie
- Eventually, Seiichi Yamamoto and Yoshimi Yokota joined on guitar and drums respectively
- Original recordings featured noise as music, but most of the work was done in post-production, with EYE radically remixing most of the material.
- Later recordings coalesced into tribal, ambient, drone and other long-form music.
- On 07/07/07, they performed at the Brooklyn Bridge Park with 77 Drummers.
- They became friends with musicians in the US avant-garde like John Zorn and Sonic Youth
- Opened for Nirvana and Sonic Youth - their sound at this point was rather punk and abrasive
- Here's an interview with Eye from that period
- Here's an interview with Yoshimi.
- Here's another Yoshimi interview.
- And one more, quite recent Eye interview
