Making Fun of Yoshitomo Nara with Shin Chan

The idea of making fun of or parodying classic art has been around for a while.

Here are a few examples.  Unfortunately, I couldn't think or come up with much of anything other than Simpsons-made parodies.

Now Yoshitomo Nara's art isn't nearly old enough to be considered "classic," but it still sparked my interest as something that could be parodied.

This is partly because I just don't really like Nara's style overall, but it does remind me of a style that I do like.

Here are a few examples of Nara's work:

As you can see, there's something somewhat morbid and disturbing about these pictures.  Or at least that's how I see them.

They all seem so serious, just like the classic art that was parodied above.  I figured Nara's work could use a little lightheartedness, so I decided to mesh them with the art whose style I was reminded of.

If you've never seen Shin Chan, then you might be put off by its style, at first.

But it's truly a hilarious Japanese-made cartoon.  I guess it qualifies as anime.

So anyway, I just figured I'd parody Yoshitomo Nara's art with some art from Shin Chan.

Here are the results:

Something completely unrelated..
