Nujabes.
Jun Seba, Nujabes, is a japanese DJ and producer. Through word of mouth, Nujabes slowly became popular in the United States within the past few years. However, most fans will argue that the hip-hop producer remained severely underrated and unrecognized during his lifetime. Born in 1974, Nujabes died unexpectedly on February 26, 2010 in an automobile accident on the Shuto Expressway in Japan.
Nujabes ran his own independent record label Hyde Out Production. It's hard to gage Nujabes popularity in the United States, especially considering that the indie/electronic music genre whose American fans he reached is already a somewhat underground, considerably less popular genre of music in this country. Despite this, Nujabes' remixed lots of Japanese hip-hop artists, and in the U.S. other experimental DJs often use Nujabes' beats to mash up with popular U.S. hip-hop artists.
Here: Nujabes' Aruarian mashed with Jay-Z's Encore.
DJ Jazz One has also remixed Nujabes' tracks Flowers and Final View. Despite what appears to be Nujabes' decent popularity in the U.S., the DJ never performed any shows in this country. As a matter of fact, internet videos of any Nujabes' live shows are scarce. It appears that the artist preferred making music in privacy rather than putting himself in the spotlight. Nujabes' Obituary written on sputnikmusic.com provides an interesting opinion of Nujabes' popularity or lack-thereof.
Nujabes live in Korea.
In Japan, Nujabes was perhaps most popular for his work on the original soundtrack for Japanese animation series Samurai Champloo, a popular television series originally broadcast in Japan in 2004 and 2005.

The entire Album released for the show and produced by Nujabes is listed on the albums wiki page: Samurai Champloo Music Record: Departure.
Nujabes and Pase Rock.
This is one of my personal favorite Nujabes' songs, from his album Modal Soul. The track features Pase Rock, an independent hip-hop artist who credits his fame entirely thanks to Nujabes on his blog here.
Nujabes collaborated with numerous artists during his lifetime, usually with solo artists whose albums he produced. Japanese rap artist Shing02 is heard rapping in Battlecry, the theme song for Samurai Champloo. Shing02 is probably the most popular rap artist commonly associated with Nujabes.
Just a cool video!
