Assignment #1: Wabi-Sabi and Kokoro

Due: 9/24

You are to choose ONE of the following options: 1) write a 3-4 page paper; 2) prepare a 7-8 minute presentation concerning some aspect of Wabi-Sabi, Kokoro by Natsume Soseki, or any of the historical/sociological topics we've discussed thus far; or 3) create a piece of art that somehow reflects an aspect of what we've discussed in class.

The paper should be typed and double-spaced. You could do some minor research (on the web, most likely) in addition to reading the book and utilizing your own pool of experience. If you do, be sure to cite the sources you use.
For your presentation, you can either prepare a new page for the class WIKI, or you can do a Powerpoint slideshow (if you want to use a different method, ask me first).

You are encouraged to think of your own topic, as long as you tell me about it first, or you can choose from one of the options below. Either way, you must also have a thesis.
